The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

(La Leche League International, 2004)

Founded in Chicago in 1955, La Leche League now has over 3,000 chapters in over 50 countries. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is the classic resource for parents on how to breastfeed your baby effectively and with pleasure. Now in its 7th edition, this book has sold over two million copies, and deserves that success. There are numerous reviews on Amazon, some negative because LLL is very authoritative about what's best for children, and has little sympathy for selfish amateurs who want to tell the experts how to do things. One of the disadvantages of Amazon's open review policy is that anybody can add their comments and judgments - no matter how silly or useless - even if the reviewer hasn't read the book! (Isn't it odd that some books have over a thousand reviews - many of which are absolutely uninformative?) If you have any doubts about breastfeeding, read this book before you decide. Even if you're committed to breastfeeding, there is detailed advice on proper technique that's worth a fortune. Also available as an audiobook.
